The New York Times Article

Photo manipulation had become a significant issue in our society today. Most use it to advertise a product so it will sell better, other to be someone or something they are not because they want to be better, others though, a minority, do it just for fun with no personal gain.

Photo manipulation is the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception through analog or digital means. Its uses, such as cultural impact, have made it of much of an interest beyond the technical process and skills involved. In digital editing, photographs are usually taken with a digital camera and input directly into a computer. Transparencies, negatives or printed

A notable case of a photo manipulation was in 1982 by National Geographic. It made a cover using two Egyptian pyramids that were very close together so that they would fit on a vertical cover. The argument against this editing was that the magazine had showed and advertised something that did not exist, and presented it as a fact.

A very famous instance over photo manipulation was made by the Time magazine in the summer of 1994. It concerned race. After O.J. Simpson (a black man) was arrested for murdering his wife and her friend, multiple publications had his image. However, Time Magazine had published an edited image. The color saturation was removed from the original, that way making Simpson's skin darker, the corners were burned and the size of the prisoner ID number was minimized.

The image on the right is the original photo and on the left is the manipulated one by the Times Magazine:

There are many companies who use photo manipulation tactic to retouch many of their images for their own personal gain, to advertise, sell, and earn money by making the people who see the perfect retouched image that makes them feel less and vulnerable to manipulated and controlled over. An example for that will be an advertisement in a teen magazine. On the cover of that magazine was an image of a beautiful tanned young woman. In a website, I do not recall its name though, was said that the image on the cover was manipulated and was actually made by twenty-seven different women.

Some examples of photos that were manipulated for the purpose of advertisement:

Others, on the other hand, use photo manipulation just for their own amusement and fun without harming others. They fix red eyes, crop, resize, blur (as for scars or acne), etc. those kinds of people do not publish those images on public, at least not for the purpose of advertising. They mostly post them on websites such as Facebook, MySpace, and many others.

An example of peoples personal manipulated photos:

As a conclusion, most people use photo manipulation tactics to influence others badly but some don't. Even though the good people are the minority I don’t think they shouldn’t be able to use programs of photo manipulation such as Photoshop. But, I do think that this kind of programs will be unauthorized for advertisement.

Technology Evaluation

There are many definitions to the word technology. One of them is – the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.

Technology has many advantages as well as disadvantages. It could be as a gift from the gods but on the other hand, it could stab you in the back. Such as the quote of Mark Kennedy, which states, "All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, and the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness."

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity just as Albert Einstein had said and I agree with him because it may be right that one machine can do the work of fifty ordinary man but no machine can do the work of an extraordinary man.

Googlezer

After viewing the video called "Googlezer" I started to think about the future and how technology would influence it.

The video is about how the world will be like in 2014 concerning technology. In the video, it said the world would be controlled by Google because Google will buy all the programs and companies, such as Amazon, face book, my space, you tube, etc. except for Microsoft.

Also, Google would buy all the printed newspaper companies. All news broadcasts will be on line. The only independent news company would be New York Times.

At 2014, New York Times tries to suit Google. The case goes to the Supreme Court and the judges will rule for Google. By then, New York Times was the only newspaper company using printings existing.
As nuts as it sounds, because of our fast development in the knowledge of technology, I believe it might actually happen.

The guy with the puffy curly hair, looks like a hippy but likes to fight.

The foreign exchange student that doesn't speak English well, he's very feminine.

Eric Forman

The very skinny weak geeky guy, all the friends always hang at his basement.

Laurie Forman
Unemployed, high school student
The stupid, hottest, and blond girl that had slept with all the guys in the neighborhood.

Summary:
My summary is that this series doesn’t follow the usual characteristics as in other series. First, the hippy supposes to be a peace lover while in this series likes to fight. Second, the geek, the hippy, the cool guy and the foreign exchange student will probably won't hang out together. Third, and last, the girl that is masculine supposes to be a lesbian, but she isn't. Actually, Eric and she is a couple. In addition, Fez, the very feminine guy, supposes to be gay, but actually, he likes girls very much and rarely hides in the closet and looks at couples.
On the other hand, the series does have some of the characteristics as in usual series. For example, the girl, Jackie, is usually spoiled and likes to act as a little girl. Another example is Laurie. Blond girls usually are stupid as her and sluty. A third and last example is Michael. He is the cool guy; they do usually, look too much in the mirror and love themselves the most.

Out Foxed Reaction Essay

The news, a T.V.programe exicting to deliver the people important information about event around the globe that influence the national stability of the world, such as war. What if, someone had told you that all the news cast you hear everyday is just biased?
During English class, we had seen an astonishing video concerning Fox News. In the video, there were very important facts on how the program is running while affecting the sorroundings in a negative way
One of their tactics is to add many comercials to the program. Before a commercial they are discussing about an important event that they believe they viewers would not want to miss. Every six minutes of news broadcast there is a ten minute breake of advertisment. After the ads, they review all the events that were said for not loosong viewrs.
Another disturbing tactic is that the anchors use the sentence "some people say" when it is an opinion of them because thery are not allowed to be involved in such a way that is prsonal. While the anchors argue with the people they are reviewing the usually get into an unegriment and into a verbal conflict. During such a conflict, they do not try to piss the other person off, they simply try to squeez out needed information without them noticing it.
An upsetting fact relating to the anchors of Fox News is that 83% of the anchors are repulicans while 17% are democrats. Most of the anchors are liberal. There is a unique anchor in Fox New, I cannot recall his name thought, that frequently lies during the broadcast but he is a pathological liar and so cannot be sued and continous with his doings.
Reaserching well and giving correct and valueable informatioon is also very important in the news. However, most of the information being presented isn't usually origanal, their quality standard are low, some stories are not well researched and many of them are not really event stories but personal reflections. In addition, the events being told are being chosen weather or not they are interesting enough and being worthy of telling. Regularly, the stories are not even critical or as important as what is going on in the outside world. For examle, the news broadcast speaks plenty of celebrities and their personal life instead of informing us of the severe situation of women in Iraq and how the majority of the women there are drug addicts as a result of their everyday fear of survival and trouble of sleeping when every few seconds there are gun shots.
As a conclusion, the Fox News program cannot be trusted. But, many of the other news programg are being lead after Fox. So, from now on, each time i warch the news I would pay a great attention to the details ant wont believe to everything being said. Later on I would research the information being told by verious resources. Than, I will know weather to believe it or not.

Super Size Me Video

Both the reviews I have read were about the experiment Morgan Sparlock had done a whole month and how much weight he gained and damaged his liver severely. His experiment consisted of a fat-free diet by eating three times a day, meals only from McDonalds. In case his experiment succeeds of demonstrating that because of McDonalds he had gained much weight, he would be able to sue McDonalds...BIG s

In the review by McFrightening, he tells about Sparlock from a dark point of view. He insults him already on the first sentence of the text. McFrightening believes that the movie indicates that it's all McDonalds fault that obesity exists. In his review, McFrightening says: "ultimately it's the contention that fast food is the engine driving highlights the fact that because of Big Mac, people get massive heart attacks which concludes to the point in which, he believes, McDonalds should be closed down and the obesity percent would decreased.

At the review of David Edistin, there was also an unpleasant point of view towards Sparlock. It seamed Edistin had thought Sparlock had just played around with his body too see what would happen. In the review, Edistin also talks about how Sparlock had to consume 5,000 calories a day while accompanied by a small number of doctors and nutritionist. Edistin also pointed out that Sparlock had gained twenty-five pounds when he ate three meals a day, only at McDonalds; each time Sparlock was asked to super size, he had to accept. Edistin mention that in years before, he was also an obese person. But, he had exercised many months and eventually lost sixty pounds. His main point was that Sparlock did a mistake in the film, giving weight to lawyers suing McDonalds on behalf of obesity and that it is an easy target for libertarians. He revealed an opinion, that people should not sue McDonalds because of obesity; they should just stop eating from them.
I believe that both of the reviews are suitable but, I am still hanging in the middle. I am not sure to which side I rather believe in. I am certain though, that something should be done with in regard of McDonalds and their super sizing meals must be forbidden.

The Corporation Video

The corporation video is a very interesting subject that greatly emphasized some important issues, aspects, concerning Human Rights.

The fact that a corporation has the rights as a person is astonishing but also unusual.
Corporations are allowed to sue and be sued by either other coroperations or people. This knowledge really amazes me.

During the corporation video, there was a secret interview with Nike. There was also information about the cheep labor many corporations are involved in. These companies are using people, every day, for hours and hours but paying them only eight cents per an hour. That's absurd. These people are working their ass out every day for eighteen hours but get about three-tens of the product's price they are making.

Such sick people should be in prison. Another type of odd persons that should be punished for their doing and prisoners for life are those who believe that…"in devastation, there is opportunity." The kind of people who think of profit on the expense of other people's hurt. An example is the owner of Fanta Orange. During World War II, the Fanta Orange was also called the Nazi drink because it was sold mostly to Germans. Coca Cola wanted to keep getting a profitable paycheck while people were dying.

Another part in the ideas that really hurt my feelings is the IBM Company, is selling her computers all around the globe with no concern to what it's used for. During World War II the Germans had the IBM computers in every concentration camp. The IBM Company had a contract with the Germans but when they were asked if they have any contracts with the Germans, they denied it even though the contract was told about in a newspaper.
I am relieved, though, that there are some good people that do care and that they have power that helps them make the world a better place. An example for that kind of persons is President Roosevelt; the man had gone against the corporations and their rights. I am very thankful to him.
